எங்கள் தோட்டத்து மயில் மாணிக்கம் பூத்தது. பளிச்சிடும் செந்நிறத்தில் ஒயிலும் எழிலும் ஒருங்கே அமைந்தது. இதன் தாவரவியல் பெயர், Ipomoea quamoclit. மலையாளத்தில் இதை ஆகாசமுல்லை என்கிறார்கள். தெலுங்கில் காசிரத்தினம் என்கிறார்கள். மராத்தியில் கணேஷ் வேல் என்கிறார்கள். வங்காளதேசத்தில் அதைத் தாருலதா, காமலதா, குஞ்சலதா என்றெல்லாம் அழைக்கிறார்கள். ஆண்டுத் தாவரமான இது, சில இடங்களில் மட்டுமே வளர்கிறது. மருத்துவப் பண்புகள் கொண்டது.

Ipomoea quamoclit (cypress vine, cypressvine morning glory, cardinal creeper, cardinal vine, star glory or hummingbird vine) is a species of vine in the genus Ipomoea, , trumpet-shaped with five points, and can be red, pink or white.

In southern India, it is called mayil manikkam in Tamil: மயில் மாணிக்கம். In Malayalam, it is called ākāśamulla. In Assamese it is known as Kunjalata (কুঞ্জলতা), while in the Marathi language it is known as Ganesh Vel. In Bangladesh, it has the vernacular names Tarulata, Kamalata, Kunjalata and Getphul.[1] In Telugu, it is called 'Kasiratnam'. In Mizo, it is called 'Rimenhawih'

This vine is one of the best plants for attracting hummingbirds, and is a vigorous grower. In warmer climates, this plant can be extremely invasive.
